The Problem
Periods can be daunting and sadly most girls (9+) are usually unprepared the day Auntie Flo arrives. When the first experience of a girl’s period is traumatic or stressful, it can negatively affect their mental health, confidence and/or relationships too.
Some cultures even view periods as taboo and the subject must be kept hush-hush at all times. Consequently girls born into these cultures are expected to keep their periods secret, even when they’re in dire need of support.
A severe lack of information is still making the rounds, where family members just simply don’t know how to support, treat or talk to the young ladies within their household entering womanhood.
More often than not, menstruation is greeted with a heavy sigh and viewed as a negative event. It’s sad, but true.
